AdaptAbility Centre
AAC Philosophy
Our core philosophy is that each child is unique and they make sense of our world in their own learning styles. One child may need to move their body (Kinesthetic learning style) to learn, while others may need to see (Visual Learner) or experience the learning process. Therefore, the old ‘One-size-fits-all’ method will not produce optimal outcomes for them. AdaptAbility Centre (also known as Synchro Training Centre), believes we are now experiencing a paradigm shift in the field through these special children who are moving us to approach ‘Teaching and Learning’ in a new way — by meeting them from the vantage point of capacity. This includes all aspects of growth: Body, mind, emotion and spirit; which are interrelated and interconnected components. A child needs stability and balance in all areas for lasting progress.
We will, I believe, come to realization that interaction breakdowns are as much the fault of the adult as they are of the child. How autistic of us to place the total blame on the who ... are trying very hard to keep the interaction going - Duchan,1983
Testimonial
Uma is just like a family more than a therapist to us. Whenever we have time, we always pay a visit to her home in Malaysia. She is very accommodating and loves Waie, my son. She is very open (holistic) and respects people's cultures and religions. I would say she is a very responsible and fun person. She is able to educate and entertain my precious Waie
Thank you so much to the therapist and everyone at AdaptAbility Centre (Synchro Training). They truly cared and made us feel that he has the chance to improve positively. Words cannot describe how much we appreciate your patience and dedication to help my son. Thank you for always welcoming Adam with big smiles. I can see a few positive changes in my son where he has shown positive changes in his behavior. Also, a word of thanks to the owner of the training centre, Ms Uma Veloo who is always approachable, concerned and considerate about my son's progress. We are very grateful for everything you have done for my son.
Teacher Uma is an inspiring mom and autism educator. She left quite an impact on my son, Raiyyan. So much so, that before she left, he worked hard on drawing a car (one of his special interests) as a farewell gift to Teacher Uma. Raiyyan continued to talk about Teacher Uma for months after she and her beautiful family left Brunei.
We have known Uma from when she was in Brunei, and met through an NGO for Autistic Families. My son, Uddin, along with Uma’s son Sanji and other parents used to organize playgroups in which Uma curated excellent and enriching activities suitable for my son and other autistic children. I am confident that she will be able to impart her knowledge and experience we had in Brunei to her centre back home in Malaysia. Wishing patience, strength, and prayers to Uma and the AdaptAbility Centre Team!
